Let Us Start the School Year Right
The sound of the school bell ringing is a welcome sound for internet access providers most especially this year after experiencing a very difficult summer. The school year has just opened and it only mean brisk business for the internet cafes most especially those found around schools. I am hoping that for this year we start off everything in the right foot.
1. I would like to remind everybody that the municipal ordinance prohibiting minors in internet cafes most especially those in school uniforms from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm is still in place with exceptions of course, if there is a written consent from the school administrators and if they are accompanied by their teachers to do research in internet cafes. Some of you might complain or groan on how are we to stay in business if we follow the rule. Just remember it’s the law and we have no choice but to follow it.
I know that some of us are encouraging students to remove their uniforms so that they could play in our internet cafes. I am hoping that each and every one of us will be aware of our social responsibility of safeguarding the education of our youths. We might be earning a living at the expense of their future. It would be best that we exercise discipline within our ranks rather than having our municipal authorities do it for us. Know the schedule of your customers. Do not allow them to play early in the morning. If you are aware of their schedule then you would know when it would be the best time to let them play in our internet cafes.
2. It is also high time that we should diversify our services. Offer other services that would provide you with additional income rather than depending only on computer rentals. Provide photo printing, typing services and study ways in which you could use the internet as a tool for student’s research and doing their homework.
3. This year ICAII will be embarking on an ambitious mission which is the integration of Information Communication Technology advancements in our schools here in Cavite. In order to aid us in this mission we are presently coordinating our activities with the officials of the Department of Education, Division of Cavite officials and with the officers of the Private School Association of Cavite. We are presently organizing an educational workshop for Information Communication Technology Integration in Private Schools called AralanetDesk Cavite Workshop 2008 on July 25 to 26, 2008 at the Del Pilar Academy. This is the continuation of the workshop that we organized last year in Tagaytay City.
